Helminthiasis is among the most important animal diseases inflicting heavy production losses. The disease is highly prevalent particularly in third world countries due to poor management practices. Chemical control of helminthes coupled with improved management has been the important worm control strategy throughout the world. However, increasing problems of development of resistance in helminths against anthelmintics have led to the proposal of screening medicinal plants for their anthelmintic activity. The plants are known to provide a rich source of botanical anthelmintics. A number of medicinal plants have been used to treat parasitic infections in man and animals.

India, with its wide eco-geographical diversity, posseses a rich medicinal plant wealth and has a rich heritage of knowledge in use of herbal drugs.A large part of population depands, even at present, on the traditional systems of medicine ,Ayurveda,Unani and Sidha.

In the present database ,anthelmintic uses of 300 plants have been recorded together with their botanical names ,chemical components, refferences and the way the plant parts are employed.

Out of these, only a few species are recognised formally as anthelminthics.Traditional medicine seems to be a potential source for new chemotherapeutic agents.Hence studies , on these plants are well with in the scope of ethnopharmacology for validation of these remedies.
